Military facilities~
No commissary or exchange

Medical~
There is a medical clinic in the Federal building and a variety of doctors in town. Most people are on Tricare Prime Remote.

Housing~
There are no government or leased housing. Finding a rental can be difficult and time consuming, especially if you have pets. But it can be done! Be prepared to spend some time living in a hotel.

Shopping~
There are many touristy shops downtown, and some local shops in the valley. We have a couple of small malls but nothing like in the lower 48. We do have a Fred Meyer, Costco and JoAnn Fabrics. Most people rely on catalog and internet shopping. But remember shipping to Alaska can also be expensive.

Adult Schools~
We have the University of Alaska Southeast here in Juneau. http://www.uas.alaska.edu

Fun Activities~
Juneau is perfect for the outdoorsman. There are miles of well maintained trails throughout the area. The wildlife is there if you keeps your eyes open from majestic Eagles, to whales, to bear if your lucky. You can see the forest, tidal beaches and mountains capped with alpine meadows. Mendenhall Glacier is the states top attraction. And in the summer parking is hard to find! Fishing abounds in the spring and fall and hunting is available in the winter. We have our very own ski resort within a few miles of downtown, and a lake that freezes over for ice skating and hockey. We also have an ice arena in Douglas. In the winter if the weather is right you can have the opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis
