1996-1999, 1999-2002, 2002-present
Weather~
2 seasons. Very hot and humid in the summer (highs in the 90's and 100's) It begins to cool down in early to mid Oct. (lows around 40's and 50's) We go from green to brown. Begins to warm up again in March. Afternoon thunderstorms are usually daily throughout the summer. Hurricane season is from early June to late November.
Military facilities~
ATC Mobile has a small grocery, exchange, gas station, tennis courts, volleyball courts, indoor racquet ball courts, and pool. Group Mobile has a really small exchange and gas station.
Medical~
Located at ATC. Small clinic, no dental for dependents. Most go on the outside by way of Tricare Standard or Prime.
Housing~
Available on a limited case by case basis. Contact the housing office located at Group Mobile for qualifications. Leased apt. or home. No Govt. owned housing.
Shopping~
Lots of shopping, we have 2 malls across the street from each other. Dillards, Sears, JC Penny, McRays, and your usual smaller stores. Target, K-Mart and Wal-Marts are everywhere. Large grocery chains are Winn Dixie and Bruno's with a few Delchamps and Food World left.
Fun Activities~
We have Mardi Gras in Feb./March Greater Gulf State Fair is in Oct. 2 really nice, big parks.
Child Care/Schools~
West Mobile and Semmes have some of the better schools. Some Coasties opt for private school, Faith Academy being the most popular, across the street from ATC.
Adult Schools~
University of South Alabama, Spring Hill College, & Faulkner Jr.College are the main ones, with smaller tech schools around.
