Station/Boat Location~
USCG Headquarters

Date there~
December 03 - current

Weather~
Cold in Winter with lots of snow, rainy in Spring, nice and hot in Summer

Military facilities~
It depends on where you live! DC is so big, there are many resources to choose from. Since I decided to live in Maryland, I go to the Andrews Air Force Base for all my "military facility needs."

Medical~
Andrews AFB, Bethesda, many others

Housing~
I did a lot of research on affordable houses in the DC and surrounding areas, and I found southern Maryland to be the best as far as quality and price. We were able to buy a nice house in a great neighborhood in the suburb of Waldorf, where a lot of military families live. Virginia proved to be too expensive for us. DH has only a 45-50 minute commute (which is really good for this area) and it is worth it because we have a nice, quality community.

Shopping~
Waldorf has a strip with malls, every major shopping center, restaurants; there are also many outlet malls not too far away

Child Care/Schools~
Southern Maryland has the best school system in Maryland.

Adult Schools~
Plenty of colleges to choose from here!!!

Fun Activities~
I joined a MOMS Club ( I am a stay-at-home mom) and found friends immediately! There is a wealth of activities and sight-seeing in our nation's capital. Here is a website for activities with kids here: http://www.our-kids.com. We like to take the metro into the city and visit all the museums and monuments, and go walking down the mall. There are lots of festivals and huge parades throughout the year. Also, there is a Six Flags amusement park in Maryland!

Additional Info~
I was skeptical I would like moving to DC at first. But once we moved here, I found that I really like it!
