Military facilities~
Closes is Tyndall Air Force Base, about 1 1/2 hours drive from Carrabelle.
Medical~
Tricare Prime and Prime Remote, depends on where you live. Limited Dr's in area.
Housing~
Very limited, as of right now there is 3 military leased houses. Hoping to get more housing. NO apartments in Carrabelle or Crawfordville. Rent runs high for something nice, or what you can afford is a dump.
Shopping~
NO SHOPPING- Carrabelle has an IGA grocery store, a Family Dollar, 1 gas station with a Subway. Many seafood resturants. Crawfordville has a Winn Dixie, Eckerd's Drug, 3 video store, Mc'Donald's, Hardee's, Subway, Family Dollar, Dollar General. We shop in Tallahassee, about a 30 minute drive. You can find most things there.
Fun Activities~
Fishing, beaches, State Parks, hunting, Tallahassee has lots of things to do. Museums, theaters, fairs. Crawfordville has lots of local celebrations.
Child Care/Schools~
Carrabelle- 1 daycare and 1 school. The school is K-12. Have heard horrible things about the school system in Franklin County, opted to send our daughter to Wakulla County. There are 3 elementary schools in Crawfordville, 2 middle schools and 1 high school. These are some of the best schools in the state of Florida. Very impressed with the education here.
Adult Schools~
There is Florida State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee.
Additional Info~
Most people from this boat live in Crawfordville. Crawfordville has better schools, is closer to Tallahassee for shopping, and medical. There are no dentist in Carrabelle and one crazy Dr. Carrabelle is about 45 minutes from Crawfordville.
