Station/Boat Location~
Key West

Date there~
2003-current

Weather~
Key West has a mild tropical climate because of the nearness of the Gulf Stream in the straits of FL and the tempering effects of the gulf of Mexico to the west and north. The year round temperature averages about 78 degrees w/ humidity level of 72%. During winter months its only 14 degrees lower than the summer. Cold fronts are strongly modified by the warm water as they move in from the north in the winter. Prevailing easterly winds and sea breezes suppress the usual summertime heating. But summer time seems too hot of me. The months of June-November are hurricane season.

Medical~
Key West has an ambulatory care clinic which takes care of the active duty, family members, retirees and retiree families. The nearest military hospital is located at NAS Jacksonville. All emergency cases are seen at the Lower Keys Medical Center utilizing Tricare benefits. All other cases are seen at The Family Medicine Clinic. The Branch dental is to treat active duty only. Everyone else has to go into town.

Housing~
They do have family housing most units are limited in space 900-1200 sq feet. If you have a lot or large furniture you may want to keep it in permanent storage during your tour. Weapons are not allowed in housing and they do not have a permanent storage on base for weapons so you would need to find something in town. Geo- and Bachelor Quarters are fully furnished except TV and kitchen items. If you plan to store your household goods or weapons it is not reimbursed by the government. Additional Info~
This is our 4 station and my 3rd island and so far this is the nicest one I have been on. Their are things or younger children to do you just need to look for them. In my opinion I think its a great place for singles or a married couple with no or older children. There is a lot of traffic and a lot of scooters and bikes so watch out!! Well enjoy if you get stationed here remember its what you make of it that counts.
