Weather~ Warm and humid most of the year. The sand gnats are AWFUL!
Military facilities~Hunter Army Airfield: Small PX and a decent Commissary.
Medical~Tuttle Army Health Clinic on Hunter or hospital on Ft. Stewart which is a 30-45 minute drive from Savannah. Also two civilian hospitals.
Housing~None on post for us Coasties.
Shopping~Two good-sized malls here! Lots of plazas and strip malls too. Super Walmart on the Southside.
Fun Activities~Several night clubs downtown, pool halls, movie theaters all over, Chuck E Cheese, Flying Frogs, all kinds of historic tours including a Ghost Walk and TONS of history here! Also the usual water stuff, dolphin feedings charter boats, etc.
Child Care/Schools~Several schools depending on where you live, but none on post.
Adult Schools~Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah State University, Savannah College of Art and Design.
Additional Info~Several of the families (including ours) live in the Georgetown area. It's on the south side of Savannah, quiet subdivisions, great schools and only about a 15 minute drive to Hunter Army Airfield. There are also a few islands (Willmington, Tybee) for more expensive housing and a little longer drive (and it's pretty out there). Overall it's a good station.
