Station/Boat Location~
USCGC SEQUOIA (225')

Date there~
4/06 - PRESENT (10/07)

Weather~
HOT, HOT, HOT & HUMID, HUMID, HUMID

Military facilities~
Pretty good exchange/commissary. Library, pool w/ baby pool, gym, skate-park, bowling alley, and dive center - all on base.

Medical~
Naval hospital off main base - clinic on base, very close to housing.

Housing~
Housing is pretty good, it's much better than living off base. Homes off base are very hard to keep up - everything is kind of run-down. Since you need the air conditioner on 24/7, it's nice not having an electric bill, and in the event of a typhoon or power outage from a storm, it's much better to be on base.

Shopping~
Not that great. Biggest store here, other than the exchange is K-Mart. The only other big American stores here are Ross and Macy's. There are two malls here that have lots of stores in them, but they are usually higher priced for the Japanese tourists. And just a heads up - not that many stores will ship to Guam, or it's VERY expensive.

Child Care/Schools~
CDC on base is pretty good - there are a few CDH's also. Pricey private pre-K's out in town - but with outstanding teachers. I don't have school aged kids, but I never hear good things about the public schools out in town on the news, and many don't have air-conditioned rooms.

Adult Schools~
U of Guam, but probably better to do on-line courses from out here.

Fun Activities~
Snorkeling and diving.

Additional Info~
It's harder being out here with small children because the weather is so harsh. We don't get to go outside a whole lot because it's either too hot, or it's storming, or the bugs are too bad. There are lots of nice parks, but it's hard to stay outside too long. Kind of get stir-crazy looking for indoor activities, also, there's not many places to take the kids other than the pool/beach, the library, playgroups and the mall.
