Military facilities~
The Coast Guard unit is actually on Rock Island Arsenal Army Installation.
Medical~
There is a small medical center on Rock Island Arsenal. This is where my husband goes. I see Dr. Wenke at John Deere Medical Group. My children see Dr. Schott at The Pediatric Group. I am extremely happy with our doctors. I haven't had any problems with TRICARE. Dr. Jason Benoit is our dentist....absolutely love him as well!
Housing~
There isn't any Coast Guard housing anywhere close. We asked the housing office on Rock Island Arsenal if we were eligible for housing on the army installation. They said yes. We are the first Coast Guard family to live on this army installation.
Shopping~
There\'s a little bit of everything.
Child Care/Schools~
Rock Island Arsenal has wonderful child care programs and youth programs. They also have a Discovery Playtime group for Mom's and children (0-5 yrs).....this is where I have met many friends. The Arsenal Children are zoned for Franklin Elementary in Moline, Illinois....great school.
Adult Schools~
Many colleges.
Fun Activities~
Chicago is 2 1/2 hours east. The Field of Dreams is approximately 1 hour away. Wisconsin Dells is approximately 4 1/2 hours north. The Quad Cities (Davenport, IA, Bettendorf, IA, Moline, IL, and Rock Island, IL) have many family activities, and some fun nightlife.

This is a wonderful place to raise children. If you are stationed here, get involved with the Rock Island Arsenal.
