Quite varied weather depending on the season. The summers can easily get over 100 degrees. It is also very humid here. But there is usually at least a gentle breeze blowing. The winters do get cold, and it snows sporadically, but never stays on the ground long. Rain usually is delivered by thunderstorms with pretty impressive lightning and thunder, and of course a possibility of tornadoes.

- Ft. Leavenworth (about an hour away) - Fort Riley in Manhattan (about an hour away) - McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita (about 2 hours away)

No housing, everyone lives on the economy
Shopping~
Pretty much any store you can think of. If there is not one in Topeka, there probably is one in Lawrence, Overland Park or Kansas City (either the KS or the MO sides) There are two large malls: one in Topeka (West Ridge) and one in Overland Park, about 45 minutes away (Oak Park).

Fun Activities~
There's not really too much to do in Topeka besides the Zoo and community pools. There is Schlitterbahn Waster Park in Kansas City, KS and Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun in Kansas City, MO plus the Kansas City Zoo. There is probably more stuff for kids that I don't know about, as we don't have any.
Additional Info~
We live in Lawrence, which is about a half hour east of Topeka. If you like the feel of a college town or lean a bit more to the left politically, you'll probably prefer to live in Lawrence. Plus it puts you closer to Kansas City and Overland Park.
