Louisville has all four seasons. Summers are very hot and humid. Winters are cold with not that much snow.
Military facilities~
Fort Knox (48 miles away)
Medical~
You have to go to Fort Knox unless you get a medical waiver from Tricare to be on Tricare Prime Remote which is what most people do at this location.
Housing~
There is no govt. housing here. You will be released to the economy. BAH will get you a pretty decent place. Most people live on the east side of Louisville or across the river in Indiana. For a good school you will want to live in Oldham county and not Jefferson county.
Shopping~
We have two malls that are located within a mile of each other. All the stores you could ever want.
Child Care/Schools~
We do not have children and have not had to utilize anything like this.
Adult Schools~
University of Louisville, Kentucky Community and Technical College, IU South east and IVY tech community College, Bellarmine University, Sullivan University
Fun Activities~
Kentucky Derby, Thunder over Louisville happens every spring. Keeneland race track in Lexington is a 45 minute drive. You can complete the Boubon trail while here. Cincinnatti,OH, Nashville, TN. and Indianapolis, IN are all within a two hour drive from Louisville.
Additional Info~
We have greatly enjoyed all the wonderful restaurants that are all located within minutes from our home. Mussell and Burger Bar has just received national recognition for its top burgers in the nation. This is definitely a foodie city. That is something that we are really going to miss. Not as many chain restaurants here. Car insurance costs a little more than what we are used to. Louisville drivers are not the best and traffic does get long when commuting from downtown.
From what I can see work wise this is definitely a great place to come if you have children and want to have extra time for them or if you want to go back to shool. Its a very laid back atmosphere. The University of Louisville matches the military tuition assistance for undergrad and graduate students.
