Medical~
Owensboro Hospital is the only hospital. Deconess and St. Mary's are located about 45 minutes away in Evansville, IN and there are many hospitals in Louisville as well (for speciality care).
We use Owensboro Pediatrics for the kids. We LOVE them. Our dentist is Dr. Hulsey and our general practioner is Dr. McGInnis - across the bridge in Rockport, IN. Your kiddos will have to be on Standard if you want good pediatric care. The only pediatrician on Prime is Dr. Neel and I would not take my children to him ever again. The level of care is poor and the office is dirty. Sorry!!
OBGYN care is Dr. Newton. I would switch to standard and go to Dr. Ottman if OBGYN care was a major issue.
Housing~
There is plenty of rental properties and real estate. If you have children make sure you stay in the County school district. The city schools are not that great. The county is awesome!

There is a lot on a small scale. We have a small mall with small stores. Famous Barr, JC Penney, Sears, Bath and Body. There are 2 Wal-Marts, KMart, Target, Kohl's and Sam's (opening soon), Pier One, Family Christian and Lifeway, Toys R Us.
If you don't like to cook this is the town for you. There is a place to eat everywhere you turn!

Fun Activities~
Evansville is about 45 minutes away. Owensboro is great if you like the small town atmosphere. There is a BBQ festival every year. Moonlight BBQ is famous for its BBQ. There is a SMALL art museum and a SMALL science museum. I emphasize small! There are plenty of places to eat and lots of churches.
There is movie theatre and a few bowling alleys. The Riverpark Center will host a few broadway shows each year and local shows by local theatre companies.
The library has a great story time and activities for the kids.
This town is HUGE into sports. Starting at 3 your kid can swim or play any sport competitively.
Additional Info~
Owensboro is a great place if you enjoy the small town life. It was a little too small for us. The people are very friendly and family oriented. We enjoyed the Southern Hospitality! Owensboro can be a bit "clicky" because most of the people have lived here there whole life.
We enjoyed our time here, but are ready to go somewhere with more to do.
Owensboro Christian Church http://www.owensborochristian.org/ has made our time here amazing. We have truly found a church home. They are so very welcoming and inviting. The people there have made Owensboro home for us.
It is a small unit and most people here don't even know the CG is here.
Dh enjoyed his time on the river. It is our second time here.
