Date there~
1990-93/present, I am a native.
Weather~
4 seasons, winter is longer than summer.
Military facilities~
Small exchange (and I mean small) @ the station. There is also an exchange at Brunswick NAS which is about a 30-40 min drive.
Medical~
There is an HS at the station (my husband was one) but most stuff is handled at the local civilian hospital, or at Brunswick NAS.
Housing~
None, you are on your own. There are rooms at the station, but no military housing.
Shopping~
Walmart along with many other smaller local stores (Tj Maxx and Home Depot will be here soon) We are also close to August and Portland (1-1 1/2hr drives) which have everything.
Fun Activities~
More to do in the summer than winter. Movies, Bowling, Art Museum, Beaches, several lighthouses and islands.
Child Care/Schools~
Several elementary schools, 1 jr high, 1 sr high. Also one christian school in Rockland (3yr old - 8th grade).
Adult Schools~
University of Maine @ Thomaston
Additional Info~
This might not be a huge city, but it is a great place for family. We can't imagine being anywhere else.
