Station/Boat Location~
Station Manistee

Date there~
May, 2002 - current

Weather~
Summers are around mid 80-90 with a few hot days. A good summer here starts in June and ends around August, however last year it started in August and ended in September. It changes yearly. You have all foru seasons, fall and spring are beautiful. Thw inter is brutal between four to six months of snow and belw freezing temp. If you like to ski or snowmobile or hunt this is it.

Military facilities~
No facilities here. there is an exchangean hour and a half to grand Haven and on 45 minutes north to traverse city but both are limited. No bases nearby

Medical~
Medical is TRICARE PRIME REMOTE so you can use a doctor in town. The hospital here has a wonderful ob department. Any physicals for military must be done in Traverse City though.

Housing~
There is no housing but you get more than enough BAH to live on the economy. There are plenty of rentals around but you have to come look for yourself since there is no real internet access to the agencies

Shopping~
This town thrives on tourism so there are plenty of small shops downtown. There is a Kmart in town and a Wal-Mart 30 minutes away. There is a mall in Traverse City which is relatively close by

Adult Schools~
West Shore Community College is 20 minutes from town.

Fun Activities~
Fishing is excellent here, hunting is the national past-time(they actually close school for the first day of deer season). There is also snowmobiling and skiing in the winter. the nearest movie theater is 30 minutes and the beach is within 5 minutes. the water never reaches 70 though. you can swim in it once you get used to it.

Additional Info~
the town is mainly fisherman, some loves, some hate us. The tourists like us until they get boarded or ticketed. for the most part it is a wonderful community and a beautiful area. I think this town is one of the best kept secrets in the Coast guard.
