Weather~
Weather is average. High 90's in the summer and mid to upper 50's to be expected in the winter. Generally sunny with typical summer afternoon thunderstorms. I've been told, mostly freezing rain in the winter with a rare snowfall here and there.

Military facilities~
Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base and Marine Corps New River Air Station

Medical~

Housing~
Yes, there IS housing aboard Camp Lejeune and aboard New River. Very nice homes, many newly remodeled, with more remodeling to come over the course of 2-3 years, including screened in porches, and 1-2 car garages. Lejeune housing is about a 30 min commute or 10 miles one way.

Shopping~
All your basic stores.. See Mindeola's post.. Small mall in Jacksonville, with a better variety of shopping in Wilmington (45-60 min drive)

Child Care/Schools~
Not up to date on Child Care although there is a CDC here on base, a NEW building to open VERY soon now.
On Lejeune you have Johnson Primary which is Preschool-2nd grade and right next to it is Bitz Intermediate for 3-5. These schools are brand new, 04-05 being Johnsons first year and 06-07 being Bitz first year.
The Middle and High Schools for both Lejeune and New River are located ON Lejeune. New River has a preschool-5 and then Tara Terrace housing area has 2 elementary schools.

Adult Schools~
Adult Education: Coastal Carolina Community College

Fun Activities~
Onslow Beach (14 miles of it on base and only a 20 min drive from Lejeune housing), Movie Theaters, Bowling Ally, Swimming Pools, VARIOUS Youth Sports, all located on base. There is endless miles of bike paths/trails on base which we throughly make use of.
There is a lot of history in nearby towns, old farm/plantation homes, Historic Swansboro, Topsail Beach.

Additional Info~
Many people live off base. Housing is very affordable. DH and chose to live ON base for the DOD schools, convenienence and opportunities (such as youth sports) offered to on base residents only. We feel living her on base has given our children a taste of growing up in the 70-80's, or what we like to call the Leave It To Beaver Lifestyle. They LOVE the neighborhood, the schools, the sports, and bike rides.
