Housing~
USCG is allowed to use Fort Dix Housing and Lakehurst housing (brand new) if you want to drive. Most houses are about 50 years old, storage is a problem, but you get creative.
Shopping~
Shopping mecca of the world with Philly and NYC so close. Or if you want Walmart or Target they are about 20 min drive.
Commissary and Exchange on McGuire are about 3 miles away
Adult Schools~
All counties in New Jersey have a community college. There are also, big universities within an hour drive.
Fun Activities~
Fort Dix has two pools, a bowling alley, putt-putt golf, go carts, pop warner football and cheerleading, soccer games, fishing in various ponds, and of course the some shore points are within an hours drive depending on the day
Additional Info~
Fort Dix is in south central jersey. It is pretty here, there are a lot of sod & horse farms, so if you are looking for the sterotypes you have to go further north.
A lot of USCG live on Fort Dix as well as Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. It is a pretty diverse community. The unit is fairly busy, so your sponsor may be gone a lot.
