Weather~
Cold, windy winters. A few small snow storms. Spring and fall are beautiful. Summer can get hot and humid.
Military facilities~
Mitchell field is a very small commissary 1 hour away. There is also Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn (1 and 1/2 hours away).
Medical~
Standard, Prime and USFHP are all offered here. The downfall with Prime and USFHP are that VERY few Dr.s participate in the plans and are not interested in catering to military.
Housing~
Housing is in Westhampton Beach. It is a small neighborhood of 54 duplexes. They are ok. I have seen much worse. BAH is very high here but so is the cost of living. Most rentals are seasonal and expensive.
Shopping~
Most shopping is 1/2 hour away. There is a Walmart, BJ's and K-Mart 15 minutes away.
Fun Activities~
New York City is only 1 and 1/2 hours away. There are a ton of winery's on the eastern part of the island.
Child Care/Schools~
My children are not in school yet, but,Westhampton beach schools are touted as some of the best.
Adult Schools~
SUNY has 3 locations on Long Island and There are plenty of community colleges to choose from in the area.
