Station/Boat Location~
Sector New York

Date there~
December 2007 - June/July 2010

Weather~
All four seasons. So far the winters have been less mild than I expected. Not much snow, but still cold. I am from Florida so the summers were not as hot or humid. Fall and Spring are very nice! It does rain here a bit, but that just helps the grass and flowers grow!

Military facilities~
Small exchange - recently remodeled. MWR, gym, medical that is US Family health plan (you have to switch to it from Tri-care) but the doctors and staff are all awesome! Across the Verrazano Bridge is Fort Hamilton (Army) and they have a commissary, bowling alley, etc.

Medical~
US Family Health Plan office takes adults and children, also there is a pharmacy attached to this office. Very convenient.

Housing~
2 - 4 bedroom units. Floor plans available on the USCG website. Housing is mandatory, but you can request a waiver to live on the economy. Right now there is a sprinkler project going on, so housing is limited and you may be able to request housing on Fort Hamilton.

Shopping~
Target is new to the island, Staten Island mall, grocery stores close to the base. It is NYC so everything you could want you have it here.

Child Care/Schools~
There is a lot of on base child care by certified providers, as well as off base day care centers.

Adult Schools~
Several colleges within the NYC area.

Fun Activities~
There are way too many to list. Also the MWR puts together programs for trips upstate and out of the NYC area.

Additional Info~
This is a great place to live. I love it here and do not want to leave! I have made some friends for life. Get involved in the community here and enjoy all there is to offer. You will not regret living here!
