Weather~
Nice summers in 70 degree range, rainy months are fall through spring. Buy a nice rain coat!
Military facilities~
Coast Guard Exchange is very small has a few food items some furniture, and TVs. No commissary, nearest one is in Fort Lewis, Washington about 3 hours away.
Medical~
For CG members small medical and dental clinic. Dependents use local medical, plenty to choose from for adult primary care only a couple pediatricians. Nice hospital and maternity ward excellent nurses and staff.
Housing~
CG housing is nice and clean, i live in a 3 bedroom unit which is large with a spacious floor plan. Backyards are small and not fenced. The 3 and 4 bedroom units are a good size but the 2 bedroom units are very small. Other then housing there are not many options, few apt complexes and the ones available are very old other option is to rent a house but almost all houses in Astoria are built around the 20's so beware of heating bill. Warrenton is a nice community with newer homes.
Shopping~
Limited shopping Ross,Fred Meyer, Safeway, Payless ,and Costco
There is a nice small downtown shopping area with local owned businesses toy stores, antiques, art galleries, etc. Sunday Market is a farmers market with crafts, music and food it runs from Mothers Day through Oct.
Child Care/Schools~
Elementary grades are split up, kinder at Gray Elementary, 1st-3rd Astor, then i think it goes to Lewis and Clark for 4th-5th, and Astoria middle 6th-8th, then high school 9-12th.
Middle and High school are within walking distance from housing. Gray Elementary is also very close about 10 minute walk from housing.
My daughter went to Gray and Astor i was impressed with the teachers and the staff.

Fun Activities~
In the summer it's the outdoor activities, camping, fishing, riding quads, Oregon has gorgeous beaches and plenty of hiking and parks. I recommend youngs river falls. the rest of the year find indoor activities, movie theatre, live shows at the liberty theatre, other then that not much to do. .
Additional Info~
Buy plenty of lamps and keep busy during the rainy months, fight the urge to hibernate, lots of people get depressed here.
