Weather~
Cool in the winter, hot in the summer, but mostly mild. We get a little snow some winters, but mostly rain (Average rainfall is around 42 inches a year). Summers can be hot (we've climbed into the 100s before), but usually average in the high 70s. I like the cold, so I love it here!
Military facilities~
Not much in this area. There is a small exchange at the base, MWR at the National Guard base (but that might be closed soon). There is a big commissary and exchage at Ft Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, which is about 2 hours away.
Medical~
No military medical facilities. We have OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University)-Awesome facility and doctors. We also have Legacy Emmanuel hospitals and SW WA Hospital. Many doctors in the Portland/Vancouver accept Tricare.
Housing~
Lease or buy on your own. No government quarters.
Shopping~
Malls galore (3 big ones within about 25 miles)! Targets, Wal-Marts, Home Depot, Lowes, you name it, it's around here.
Adult Schools~
WSU and Clark College in Vancouver. Portland Community College
Fun Activities~
OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), the beach is about 1.5 hours one way, the mountains (Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens) are about 1.5 hours the other way. Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls, lots of places to do stuff outside (get good raingear and you'll be fine)
Additional Info~
If you like cooler weather, don't mind the rain TOO MUCH....if you like doing stuff outside (sometimes getting wet), I think you'd like WA or OR.
