Station/Boat Location~
Station Tillamook Bay

Date there~
October 2002- 2005

Weather~
Warm Summers about 70-80. There are lots of beautiful flowers, and vegetables that grow easily here. However the ocean never becomes warm enough, or settles enough to swim in. The winters are very, very, wet, and dark. The sun rarely shines, and it may be forty degrees out, but it feels like 10 degrees.

Military facilities~
There is a small cexchange about 45 minutes from here in Astoria. It offers minimal electronics, and uniforms.

Medical~
The medical here is Tricare Prime Remote. Tillamook is located on the Oregon Coast about an hour and a half from Portland, but well worth the drive. You would most likely have the same doctor treat your husband for a sore throat, take care of your neighbors broken arm, and perform your annual.... scary.

Housing~
Housing is very limited. if you have children you should be able to easily obtain government housing. If not your housing allowance should cover a decent, but hard to find house. Tim Croman in Rockaway Beach can help you out he is an excellentproperty manager. There are about eight family units, and barracks for those who are single.

Shopping~
Ahhhhh!!!!!! Hardly any, except for the local Fred Meyer, this is a tourist, and fishing town so there are plenty of souvenir shops though. There are two outlet malls, one south of town, the other north both about 45 minutes away. Portland is about an hour and a half away, but worth the drive to get to an actual shopping mall.

Adult Schools~
There is Tillamook Bay Community College, that works with Portland Community College....Excellent!!! Affordable, I am almost done completing my degree in science here.

Fun Activities~
I am not an outdoors lover, I love the city. for those who love to fish, hunt, and explore this is the place for you. Salmon, tuna, and halibut fishing was what my husband and his buddies did. Some went elk, and deer hunting.

Additional Info~
We have been here for a few years now, and may be leaving this summer. During this time i have actually seen animals I have never seen before. The Coast guard is a very important staple in this tiny fishing community. Most are very supportive, and interested in helping us out. The station is located in Garibaldi, a tiny little ghost town (look it up if you don't believe me) you can live about ten minutes away from the station due to the fact that the guys are almost on recall. We have enjoyed our time here, it has definitely showed us the slower pace of life, and shown us how beautiful the ocean can be, and also how deadly it is.
