Weather~
Summer's are cool and breezy here on Aquidneck Island. Living so close to the Narragansett Bay your temperature is about 5-10 degree's cooler. Winter's are very wet, breezy and cold. You get a lot more rain than snow.
Military facilities~
Naval Station Newport has a commissary, exchange, MWR, clinic, bowling alley, gas station, mini-marts, officer, enlisted and chief's club.
Medical~
Naval Ambulatory Care Center (401-841-3771) and pharmacy.
Housing~
Naval Station Housing Dept. (401-841-3576) has housing in all counties. The CG has housing in N. Kingston, RI. about 20 min. driver over the Newport Bridge.
Verizon for your local phone company. In base housing your cable company is Newport Navy Cable (401-847-7980). You can get about any internet service.
Shopping~
On the island you have Job Lot (like Big Lots but only in RI), Benny's, Christmas Tree Shops, Walmart, CVS, Brooks Pharmacy. Stop N Shop and Shaws are your local grocery stores. In Warwick, RI (about 20-30 min. away) you have EVERYTHING else.
Fun Activities~
Roger Williams Zoo in Providence. Six Flags is about 3 hrs north in MA. Boston has an Aquarium and a Science Museum.
Child Care/Schools~
The MWR runs a daycare/preschool on base...Coddington Preschool. The tuition is all based on household income. You have full day, 5 days a week programs for daycare and preschool has 3 and 4 day 1/2 day programs. My most favorite thing about Middletown, RI. Is my view of the Narragansett Bay. No matter where I drive there it is. Also, Down Town Newport is by far the best place to walk around and relax.
