Hot~Hot~Hot in the Summer! Winter has been very mild!
Military facilities~
There is Corpus Christi NAS, where Group Corpus Christi is located. There is Naval Station Ingleside also.
Medical~
We have standard and since this is a big military community, you should have no trouble finding providers. I don't know anything about prime, except that the physicians have a contract at a local hospital. The hospital is a top notch facility. Our Orthodontist is Dr. Janet Vaughan and her father - 361-992-8161.
Housing~
Housing There are rentals available, just hard to find in certain areas.
The Cutter Brant is located in the Ship basin in between Corpus Christi, TX and Portland, TX when you view it on the map. ***CGC BRANT IS RELOCATING TO NAVAL STATION INGLESIDE - JUNE 2004. 20 MINUTES NORTH OF PORTLAND*** We live in Portland and we were fortunate enough to have a spouse here to look at a rental house that came open. In Portland the rentals go very fast, usually within a couple of days. I am here to help when the time comes for you to move too. Shopping~
Plenty of shopping here also. Portland has a Kmart, there is a Walmart in Ingleside and 2 in Corpus. There are 2 malls in Corpus too.
Fun Activities~
Ingleside base has a fantastic swimming pool! The rates are very cheap and lifeguards on duty at all times. There is a newly remodeled gym there too for adults.
We have spent a lot of time at the Corpus Christi beach this summer, but the jelly fish seem to migrate there. Personally, I find that there is not a lot to do here.
For Hunters~Kingsville Navy Base has hunting available for AD members. Hunting is based on leases here and can be quite expensive, like $1,000 to start, just for the hunting season. Needless to say, we were quite surprised to find TX like this.
Child Care/Schools~
The school system is Gregory-Portland ISD great, haven't had any problems here.
Adult Schools~
Home of Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Additional Info~
The Caller Times is the local newspaper.
We bank at Navy Army Federal Credit Union. There is an ATM (only with/drawl) in Portland, but there are branches in Ingleside, Corpus Christi NAS, and 2 in Corpus Christi. I have flag checking and for $5/month charge...checks are free along with other features.
