:: Galveston, TX - Amy
Station/Boat Location~
USCGC HATCHET (75")

Date there~
October 31, 2004 to September 2005

Weather~
Lots of humidity. Very hot all the time. We are in the middle of hurricane season. They say we will be hit hard this year. There hasn't been one actually hit us since I have been here.

Military facilities~
Coast Guard Exchange. Has some drinks in coolers. Lots of liquor sold here. Clothing, gifts, electronics, uniform odds and ends. It is small but you can usually find what you need.

Medical~
There is on sight medical and dental but, is used for the coastie's only. You can go and get some over the counter meds for free once a month from medical.
Civilians use outside doctors and hospitals.
We are located next to U.T.M.B. hospital. It is a teaching hospital but, very good.

Housing~
We have off base living. We get BAH for the expenses.

Shopping~
There are all the stores you need plus tourist sights. If it is not on Galveston Island, you will drive about 20-45 minutes to get to malls and things like that.

Adult Schools~
UTMB, Galveston College, Texas A&M (on the island). Mainland Collge (off the island)about 20 minutes away.

Fun Activities~
There are some moral events. Depends on you department. We live right on the beach. Plus, there are endless shops and bars.

Additional Info~
Overall I have not really liked Galveston. I am from Texas. This place is very competetive in every since of the word.
