Station/Boat Location~
Alexandria - TISCOM

Date there~
2002 - present

Weather~
Four seasons. We've had some mild years and some very hot and humid summers and cold and snowy winters. Usually we get a couple of good snow storms but there isn't snow on the ground all winter.

Military facilities~
Ft. Belvior is closest. Quantico is not far. There is military all over.

Medical~
Dewitt Army Community Hospital on Belvior is pretty good for all your needs, active duty & dependant. I had a baby there and it was ok but not as good as civilian.

Housing~
Ft. Belvior is in the midst of a big housing rush. The new houses look great, the older ones that are still around not so great. We live on the economy and it is VERY expensive and hard to find housing within BAH.

Shopping~
It's everywhere. This is a huge metro area. Springfield Mall is just a few miles away. If you are willing to drive a little further can go to Potomac Mills outlet mall or Tyson's Corner, which is huge, and Fair Oaks Shopping Center which is also big and really nice.

Adult Schools~
Again, this is a huge metro area so there are tons of school. Northern Virginia CC, George Mason, James Madison, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, George Washington, American University, the list goes on and on.

Fun Activities~
There are tons of museums, monuments, Smithsonian zoo and most of those are free. Mount Vernon is nice, Burke Lake Park is a lot of fun for families.

Additional Info~
This area is really expensive and hard to manage on a one-income family. It is also huge and sometimes impersonal.
