Station/Boat Location~Station Cape Charles (Eastern Shore of Virginia)
Date there~July 2003 - present
Weather~pretty much 4 seasons
Military facilities~ none on the Eastern Shore, have to travel across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel ($17 round trip toll) to Norfolk/Hampton Roads area.
Medical~Civilian hospital 20 minutes North...Military centers across the bay.
Housing~There is housing available...9 houses total. They are 4BR/1&½BA with fenced in back yards
Shopping~Shopping on the Eastern Shore is very limited. We have Food Lion and Dollar General in Cape Charles. There is a Rose's about 20 minutes north, Peebles (clothing store) 40 minutes north, and a Wal-Mart in Maryland about 1 hour and &½ north. You can cross the bay ($17 toll) and there's pretty much every store imaginable in Hampton Roads.
Child Care/Schools~I don't have children so I don't know much about the schools. There are 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school in the county. Not much to choose from in the area of daycare/preschool.
Adult Schools~Eastern Shore Community College 35 min north. Many colleges across the bay ($17 toll).
Fun Activities~Beach, hunting, fishing.
Additional Info~Cape Charles is a very small town. It's nice but a bit expensive. It is becoming a resort area so real estate prices are unbelievable. I don't like it much here...it is only bearable because I am with my husband. It has been an adventure and I am willing and ready to leave here!!
