Date there~
6/1998 - 6/2002

Weather~
Four seasons. Nice~ not to hot or to cold

Military facilities~
Very, very small Navy exchange

Medical~
Civilian. Closest hospital is 45 minutes north or south.

Housing~
New Housing was built in 2003. 3 bedroom duplex units w/yards. Very nice area.
Nice playgrounds. Housing is located at Wallops Island which is before you get out on the island of Chincotegue. It's about 15 minutes from the base.

Shopping~
Not to close. Closest mall is 45 min north in Salisbury, MD. Walmart is about 25 min north in Pocomoke City, MD.

Child Care/Schools~
Schools are not very good. It is a VERY low income area. Three Bears Daycare is a great childcare center. Located within a mile of housing. The take ages 8 weeks and up and have a wonderful pre-k program. I was very happy with my child there and there are a lot of other military families (Navy and Coast Guard).

Adult Schools~
Salisbury University and Wor Wic community College about 45 min north. Easter Shore Community College is about 20 min south but VERY limited curriculum

Fun Activities~
Chincotegue Island is a blast in the summer. There is almost always something going on. Definitely check out the annual July pony swim and auction. There is also a wildlife loop and beach area that are pretty cool.

Additional Info~
Great place to live if you have a very young family or no children. There is not really any fun things for preteen or teenagers do in or around Chincoteague. This was one of our favorite units because it is quite and laid back. BEWARE of the mesquitoes!! They swarm and are terrible in the spring and late summer. The island does virtually shuts down in the winter; leaving nothing exciting to do.
