Station/Boat Location~
Station Two Rivers
Two Rivers is about 1 hr 20 minutes north of Milwaukee. Town of about 12,000. Station unit with about 20 people. Sister station is Sheboygan, WI. The OIC, XPO and EPO day work Monday through Friday, no normal duty. The rest of the crew, except the cook, is on a 2 day duty rotation, with 3 day weekends.

Date there~
2000 - 2003

Weather~
4 seasons. Sometimes it feels like the winter is the only season, but it has almost equal times for all seasons. As we are on the west side of Lake Michigan, it seems closer to the lake it is warmer in the Winter and colder in the summer. Lake effect is nice.

Military facilities~
The nearest to us is Group Milwaukee, which has a small exchange. The next largest is Great Lakes Naval, north of Chicago, Illinois. This is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from here.

Medical~
All on the economy. Most places take Tricare. Just switched to Tricare Prime. We had our second child here and the new Aurora Hospital is beautiful. It just opened in 2000.

Housing~
There is housing in Manitowoc, which is connected to Two Rivers. It is a city of about 35,000 people. There are 3, 3 bedroom townhouses in one location, over looking Lake Michigan. There is also housing in the Rawley Point Lighthouse, north of Two Rivers about 7 miles. This is where we live. Very nice location. Hard to have children here as there is no neighbors. The housing has two moral cottages attached to it so you have new neighbors all the time and sometimes they are just plain mean. The lighthouse has technically 5 bedrooms and 3 floors, although the first floor where you actually hang out is very small space.

Shopping~
The nearest shopping is in Manitowoc, which takes aobut 15 minutes to get to. This includes Walmart, Shopko and some little shops. There is better shopping in Green Bay, which is a 45 minute drive, but worth it. You have all types of shopping here, including a mall, Target, Sams Club, Old Navy, etc. Almost anything you could want. There is also Appleton, which is located about 50 miles west of here. They have wonderful shopping too.

Fun Activities~
There is always some type of activities going on for families. There are alot of small towns in the general area that have festivals during summer, as well as Two Rivers and Manitowoc. There is great Recreation programs through the city and YMCA. A hard place to live for single people as it is mainly family oriented.

Child Care/Schools~
The Two River School District has a great system. Their percentages and testing show that they rank in the 95% on most subjects. They have small class sizes and the people are nice. The Manitowoc school district is also good, but be aware that they do not offer a hot lunch program. Try to stay in the north side of Manitowoc if possible.

Adult Schools~
The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay is about 45 minutes north of us with a great school. They have a technical college just south of Manitowoc and is very good. There is the two year school of the University of Wisconsin - Manitowoc offering associate degrees and credits transferable to other UW schools. There is also Silver Lake college, a private catholic college that is very good and very close. Just may cost a little more.

Additional Info~
For anyone with a family it is a very nice area to come to. It will be hard to leave.
