2004 - current

Weather~
It's absolutely perfect out here. Most of the time, it's in the mid to high 70's and summer time it can get as high as the 90's or even higher depending on how far east you live. The winter here is mild, it's just rain. If you have an umbrella, you are set!

Military facilities~
There are commissaries and exchanges.

Medical~
You have a range of options when it comes to medical facilities. The main one out here may be considered to be Naval Medical Center San Diego. But, there are facilities a several of San Diego's smaller communities, often times with better parking options.

Housing~
Yes, there is housing. You need to contact the housing office at 32nd Street (Naval Base). Sometimes, you can luck out like we did and not wait at all. They are currently building housing in Serra Mesa and many more right next to the MCRD. The key, I have found, is to check in with the housing office frequently and to be persistent. You do need to have dependents.

Shopping~
Where isn't there a place to shop. From your local shopping centers to outlets, there is always something for everyone. Many malls are "outdoors" and you will find that it's actually enjoyable to shop in that kind of atmosphere year round.

Adult Schools~
There are many colleges in this area. You can find your local community colleges (like Southwestern Community College, and Mesa College) to your universities (like San Diego State University, University of CA San Diego and San Diego University.) In addition, you can also attend classes online.

Fun Activities~
Sea World San Diego, the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Knott's Soak City, Legoland, all the museums in Balboa Park, local neighborhoods often offer different activities, also.

Additional Info~
You can find things to do with your family in San Diego Family Magazine. It's free and it comes out every month. In addition, there is even a book out that is called San Diego with Kids and there, it lists about 101 things you can do with your family.
There is a Navy Lodge at 32nd Street and many hotels offer a military discount, if you ask.
