Weather~
Hot, hot, hot. It is steamy sticky heat almost all year. There are a few months of the year where it gets cooler and it's beautiful. It also rains a lot!
Military facilities~
We are on NAS Key West. There is a commissary, exchange, clinic, elementary school, gas station, bowling alley, and post office on base (there are several base locations that make up the NAS but nothing is very far apart since the island isn't that big.
Medical~
Everyone goes to the clinic on base for medical. Dependants go to civilians in Key West.
Housing~
Balfour Beatty manages the housing. There a few housing areas. We live on Sigsbee in a 3 bedroom duplex (we have two little girls). We are in a renovated house and haven't had any major problems and we really like our house.
Shopping~
Not much at all. KMart, Sears (a small one), Home Depot, Ross, Walgreens, CVS.
Child Care/Schools~
There is a CDC on base and an elementary school (our girls are not in school or daycare so i'm not much help with that.
Adult Schools~
Florida Keys Community College.
Fun Activities~
There is a ton to do with older kids or with no kids at all. A lot of water activities and bars
Additional Info~
It's been challenging for us with little ones (when we got here our girls were 5 months and 3 years old). There is not a lot of kid things to do and it's hot most of the time so our girls haven't been able to be out as much as we like because it's that hot.
