Date there~
I've lived in this area since 1997. Not actually stationed here. My dad works for a Navy Contractor at Webster Field.

Weather~
The weather is mostly mild but it changes a lot in the winter. One day it will be sunny and 70 and the next we'll have snow. The summers are hot and can be really humid but not unbearable. It rains a lot in the spring and the fall is beautiful. Overall the weather is good here.

Military facilities~
Patuxent River Naval Air Station has everything you'd need with a decent commissary and exchange. It's like 20 or so minutes from St. Inigoes. Most people live closer to the main base anyway. It's a good sized base but is comprised largely of contractors so you know it has to be nice.

Medical~
You'd think there would be more tricare providers around here but you have to call around or check the tricare website. I see my family's primary physician who accepts it. There is a clinic on base as well.

Housing~
Private Housing is expensive here. The cost of living is really high. The base has on and off base housing for navy and they come first in priority. I know that there are a few coasties who live in Wildewood apts. It's new and really nice but pricey. Actually, there are a lot of military families in Wildewood. The number of apt complexes and townhouses has grown really fast. There weren't any when I first moved here and now there's a good number.

Shopping~
The area is growing really fast. There was nothing but a kmart and walmart when i first moved here and now we have target, ross, best buy, old navy, petco, lowes, BJ's, Michaels, Pier 1, and more stores being built now. the closest mall is in waldorf like 45 mins away. The annapolis mall is better and that's like an hour and 15 mins away. It's easy to find anything you'd want.

Child Care/Schools~
The Schools are good here and the teacher pay is among the highest in the country so a lot of the teachers have been here for a while. Calvert County Schools are ranked higher than St. mary's county so there are a lot of families who live in Calvert and just drive the extra 15 minutes to the base every day.

Adult Schools~
There is the College of Southern Maryland which has gotten several new facilities, its the local community college. St. Mary's College is an honors college. The Southern Maryland HIgher Education Center offers bachelors, masters, and a few PhD programs from big name schools in northern maryland and D.C. They have a website with all that info as well. The professors actually commute down to the county for those classes.

Fun Activities~
There really isn't much here outside of school activities for teens. I was bored a lot growing up. Now that I'm older there is a lot more. There are a few good bars. Lots of good restaurants. Solomon's Island is fun in the summer time. The Tiki Bar is really famous and its opening draws thousands of people every April. Good Mai tais there. If you like sports there are a lot of adult leagues. Softball on base, soccer locally at Chancellors Run Park. The bowling alley on base is nice too. D.C is an hour away and is great for museums and landmarks. Baltimore is just under 2 hours away and has great night clubs. Ocean City Maryland is 3 hours away and is good in the summer time.

Additional Info~
The area is growing fast and its a nice place to raise a family. It's also very pretty. A lot of navy end up deciding to retire here.
