:: Camp Lejeune - mindeola
Station/Boat Location~
Special Missions Training Center

Date there~
2004-present

Weather~
Four seasons, hot and humid summers and fairly mild winters. It only snowed once this past winter.

Military facilities~
The SMTC is located on Camp Lejeune. We have access to so many great things on base. Commissary, exchange, 7 barber shops, 4 gas stations, library, DoD schools, marina, 3 gyms, 3 pools, O and SNCO clubs, wives clubs, youth centers and sports, movie theatres, bowling and more....

Medical~
There is a Naval hospital on base. You can use Doctors in town as well.

Housing~
There is plenty of housing and it is said to be the best in the Marine Corps. There is Field Grade Officer, 04 and above, Staff NCO ( E6 - E9) and junior enlisted housing areas. The junior enlisted housing is amazing. They are all new, two story, garages, etc. SNCO and Field Grade officers have ranch style, carports, wood floors, laundry rooms, screened porches. O4 and above have 2 story white houses with garages and built ins. It is a nice community on base. I really enjoy it.

Shopping~
The mall is sad, but the town offers all I need! Target, Wal-Mart, OLd Navy, Marshall's, Borders, Goody's, etc. Wilmington has Excellent shopping and that is about 1 hour away.

Adult Schools~
Coastal Carolina Community College, Adult Education Center on base which offers lots of bachelor/masters education options.

Fun Activities~
We keep pretty busy right on base with the marina where you can rent boats and canoes for the river, the beach is on base, bowling, movies, lots of youth sports and activities. Town has laser tag and roller rink. Lots of beach communities around. .

Additional Info~
Additional Comments: If you want to live off base, the towns closest to the SMTC would be Sneads Ferry, Hubert and Swansboro. The SMTC is at the back of the base and the back gates go to those towns. If you live in Jacksonville, you will likely have a 45 minute commute. The base is pretty large.
We are really enjoying our time here...
