Weather~
4 seasons. Mild winters-highs in the 40's. Last year they closed school for two days because of one inch of snow! Spring and Fall are beautiful. Summer is hot!!! Humidity and 90's can make it very uncomfortable.
Military facilities~
Just the station.....closest commissary and exchange are about 1.5 hours away.
Medical~
Prime Remote. Local doctors at Long Beach Family Med are great! If you need anything special like dermatology, OB/GYN, or pediatrician you will have to go to Wilmington about a 40 minute drive.
Housing~
No military housing. Economy is good-recommend Southport, or Oak Island. Also Boiling Spring Lakes is about a 20 minute commute.
Shopping~
Wal-mart is in Southport. Lowe's Foods and Food Lion are the grocery stores. Wilmington and Myrtle Beach have malls and anything else you might need.
Child Care/Schools~
Not sure. I know there are many day cares in the area. One High school, middle school and elementary.
Adult Schools~
UNCW, Cape Fear CC, Brunswick CC
Fun Activities~
Beach!!!!! Beautiful beaches! Fishing, two piers, public parking at the beach. Aquarium just a 30 minute ferry ride away. Myrtle beach has many shows, and small zoos/aquarium (Ripley's aquarium is awesome, and only $6 for active duty and dependents.)
Additional Info~
Nothing is very close-drive at least 40 minutes to get to Target. Tourist season is crazy. I don't go to the grocery store on Saturday (weekly check-in day) unless I have to. Very laid back. Love it here, wish we would have used the beach more than we did.
