Station/Boat Location~
All boats are located on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, which is located in Kittery Maine.
USCGC RELIANCE(210'), USCGC TAHOMA (270'), USCGC CAMPBELL(270'), Station Portsmouth (Newcastle NH)

Date there~
Currently there (2004) (also from the area)

Weather~
4 Seasons! The winters can be cold w/ lots of snow, the summers can get hot, but the fall is incredible.

Military facilities~
The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (actually located in Kittery Maine)is where the boats are docked. New Castle NH is a few miles away where there is a CG station.

Medical~
There is a Naval Clinic there, you can choose tricare or Martins Point. York Hospital, Portsmouth Regional & Wentworth Douglas (in Dover NH) are all good hospitals. If there is not a specialist in the area you need, between Boston (1hr south) and Portland (1 hr north) you should be able to find something.

Housing~
There is Navy Housing, which is now privatized in Kittery near the Naval Base. The economy is pretty pricey in Portsmouth, but if you are willing to drive a bit you can find reasonable rentals or houses to purchase.
Here is a link to the company who handles housing: http://www.nsyportsmouthhomes.com/

Shopping~
The Outlet Malls in Kittery are fantastic, there are miles of outlets. There is the Fox Run Mall in Portsmouth, a few WalMarts, most of what you need. If you drive 1 hr in any direction you will find bigger malls, Targets, Christmas Tree Shops. Downtown Portsmouth is great, and has a lot of great shops.

Child Care/Schools~
I have heard great things about the CDC on the Naval Base. We live in South Berwick, which is SAD 35 (Marshwood schools), we share the system w/ Eliot and it is one of the best in Maine. They excel in academics & sports w/ in the state. My dh is stationed in Boston, but we bought a house here because of this school district.

Adult Schools~
UNH (about 30 min away in Durham NH) , McIntosh College, Hesser College.

Fun Activities~
The beaches are great (York Beach in ME, being our fave), the mountains are only 1 hr away, and so is the Lakes region of NH. There is a water park in Portsmouth NH & Saco ME. We are 1 hr away from Canobie Lake Park in Salem NH.

Additional Info~
This is such a wonderful place to raise a family. I could not wait to leave here as a young adult, and fought to get back here once I married and had children. There is nightlife in downtown Portsmouth, great shops, culture, beaches, and you are only 1 hr from both Boston & Portland.
