Military facilities~
Coast Guard Training Center Cape May is the home of the Coast Guard enlisted corps -- it is our Coast Guard enlisted accession point and recruit training center. The finest young men and women in service to the United States of America pass through our gates each year. Our goal is to graduate apprentices with the pride, commitment and basic skills to serve the American Public in the U.S. Coast Guard. At Training Center Cape May, we instill, in all our people, the Coast Guard's Core Values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty.
Training Center Cape May hosts other resident training programs in addition to Recruit Training:
The Reserve Enlisted Basic Indoctrination training program is designed to introduce incoming Reservists, new to the Service, to the customs, courtesies and operations of the U. S. Coast Guard.
The Company Commander School trains the petty officers and chief petty officers that train the recruits. All enlisted personnel assigned to Training Center Cape May as Company Commander, Section Commander and Battalion Commander must attend Company Commander School.
The purpose of Recruiter School is to enable Recruiters to more effectively recruit: that is, to reach out into a given community and encourage the best prospective Coast Guard members to join, not to simply be content with or rely upon only those individuals who seek out the Recruiter. This four week course is required for all personnel assigned to duty as a Recruiter or Recruiter in Charge.

Shopping~
Well things are looking up for Cape May. We are currently in a boom state...lol.
Kmart is updating its look and has hired some nicer people in the fear of going under with all the new up and coming stores. We have a Home Depot and a brand new Lowes. Very very soon we will have a Michaels and a Super G, a new shoe store, and a few others that are being built now as I type away!
Grocery shopping can be very pricey here, I am still in sticker shock. We have Acme, ShopRite and a SavALot.
Rumor has it we will be getting a WALMART, so many people say yes and so many people say NO. I wish and I hope and that is all I can do for now!
You can take a ferry that is and hour and 20 minute ride to Deleware, they have shopping outlets there. Nice trip and I look forward to doing it soon.
Mays Landing is approx. 36-40 miles away, depending on the exit you wish to take. Up there is CIVILIZATION, they have a mall, Walmart, and many many other places to shop.
COMMISSARY... Is about 2 hours away. But is so worth the trip, I made a trip 2 weeks ago, spent 300.00 for and enitre month and a half of groceries. If I would have bought the same stuff in Cape May you are looking at doubling that. If I shop in Cape May It may cost me about 100-150.00 a week.
There is also and Exchange in Cape May, small, has things to support the CG, not much really. They get some furniture and electronics...It is just luck of the DRAW!
