Winters: 30-40's cold and snow. Summers: Hot and at times humid. 90's.
Military facilities~
Small Exchange on base open Mon-Fri. Galley located at Station. Fort Monmouth is 25-35 minutes away with large PX, commissary, and great MWR facilities (Bowling, gym etc).
Medical~
There is an HS at the Station for members, otherwise Tricare using Medical at Ft. Monmouth for Dependents and CG members beyond basic sick call.
Housing~
Barracks are located in the Station building along with Senior UPH for Petty Officer's located on base (2 rm apartments).
Housing: Duplexes with no garages (2-4 bdrms) and Town Houses some attached with 1 car garage for 2-3 bdrms and 2 car garage for 4 bdrm homes. There is also 3 Victorian style homes for Officers. All homes have central heat but no AC. No cable is offered to Sandy Hook only Direct TV or Dish Network.
Shopping~
Monmouth Mall and strip malls all within a short drive.
Adult Schools~
Brookdale College with 30 minute drive.
Fun Activities~
CG Unit is located on Sandy Hook (Gateway National Park) on the Jersey Shore. Very busy in the summer for beach goers and fishing.
There are Fast Ferries within driving and one in the summer within walking that take you to NYC in 25-30 minutes for a reasonable price. Sandy Hook Station has a community pool, community center, pavilion on the beach, gym, softball field, basketball court, tennis courts and roller hockey court all located on base. Very active Morale events for members and family.
