:: Saugerties, NY - Aimee
Station/Boat Location~
ANT Saugerties and USCGC WIRE (65')

Date there~
April 2002 - to- Current

Weather~
The summer gets pretty hot (can reach 100) Plan on some kind of air conditioner. Winter will get very cold, sometimes into the negatives.

Military facilities~
none locally. West point is 50 minutes away.

Medical~
We are all on Prime Remote.

Housing~
Single quarters only. No government housing for families. Finding a free standing house close to the base is generally hard and pricey. However, if you get lucky and find a house in the village it is a beautiful place to live.

Shopping~
Nothing except antiquing in the village. There is a Price Chopper (a chain grocery store) about 5 minutes away from the village. Walmart, Target, and Filenes type stores are only 20 minutes away in Kingston.

Child Care/Schools~
This is a very child friendly place to live. The schools are excellent. Day Care is a bit tough to find due to its demand so you will have to do some homework in that department.

Adult Schools~
SUNY Ulster

Fun Activities~
Every year there is the world famous Garlic Festival where world renowned chefs experiment with cooking with garlic. There are some wonderful festivals and farmers markets local. The fourth of July is a large cause for celebration. There are fireworks and a carnival. About 25 minutes way is round-out creek. There are some neat clubs and restaurants/bars on the water here. Woodstock is about 20 minutes away and is definitely a great town to visit. NY City is only 101 miles south; you can catch the train from Poughkeepsie (45 min drive).
