Weather~
Summers are hot, humid, sticky and gross. There is also the potential for hurricanes. Winters are mild. Rarely will you have a day when you need a heavy coat. Fall and Spring are actually pretty nice.
Military facilities~
NAS Corpus Christi, medium sized commissary and exchange. Naval Station Ingleside has a small commissary, but the base will be closing by 2010 (I think that's the right date).
Medical~
There's a hospital on base. If you have Tricare Prime you can be seen off base. For pediatrics though, you have to take the kiddies on base.
Housing~
NAS has some really nice newer housing. If they were complete when we moved here, we may have put in for one. You can however, live very comfortably on the economy. My DH and I bought a house just after we moved here and will make a small profit when we go to sell the beginning of next year.
Shopping~
Padre Staples Mall has a Dillards, Macys, JC Penney and all the other smaller stores; Sunrise Mall -not too much there, but a Sears, Burlington and Stein Mart; There are plenty of Wal Marts, one Target, Linens-n Things, Best Buy, etc. Shopping is pretty decent, but you can drive to San Antonio about 21/2 hours away for much better shopping.
Child Care/Schools~
Plenty of school and child care facilities. I have my 4 month old in KinderCare and they are wonderful. They give corporate discounts (If spouse works for a qualifying company. I work for Wells Fargo.).
Adult Schools~
Del Mar College (2 year), CC A&M University
Fun Activities~
The beach in the spring, or anytime other than summer. I hate the beaches here in summer. The water is warm and salty and not refreshing. There's an aquarium here in town which is pretty decent. The LEX, an old aircraft carrier. Even the little towns outside of Corpus are ok to visit and peddle around in. I prefer Port Aransas.
Additional Info~
Corpus has its ups and downs. My DH and I do not like it for our own reasons, and I'm after a few weeks here you may feel the same way. I'll let you make your own opinions of this town. We are just ready to get outta here!
